DJ Saya

DJ Saya has been playing and promoting Drum & Bass in Hawaii since 2005.  After moving to Hawaii in February of 2005, she created Pacific Jungle in October of that year to promote Subphonix and its 4 original residents, DJs Synrgy, Antikkz, Meilo & Empyr. Since then, Saya has worked to build Pacific Jungle and Drum & Bass in Hawaii.  Pacific Jungle now has two active monthlys. Subphonix is Hawaii’s longest running all Drum & Bass monthly, which goes down every 1st Friday of every month at Mercury Bar, Downtown Honolulu. Subphonix, now run by current local residents Saya, Antikkz & BillyZane, showcases the best in Hawaii’s local Drum & Bass talent and has brought some of the best and brightest from the mainland, the UK and around the world.

Broken Liquid, is Pacific Jungle’s younger monthly which is celebrating its first anniversary in June 2009. The creation of Saya and DJ Toki, Honolulu’s two queens of Drum & Bass, Broken Liquid showcases liquid Drum & Bass along with other emerging genres such as Dubstep, UK Garage & Fidget. Saya & Toki are residents along with DJ’s Monkey, Victor J & T.H.D. and usually features special guests in two separate rooms.

While Pacific Jungle and her promotional work with the crew is her first passion, Saya has seen her personal DJ career strengthen in the last few years as well.  She has played on the mainland at events such as Circuit and Whizard’s FaceOff and Junglist Platoon’s Respect, the longest running Drum & Bass event in the US, held her residencies at Subphonix & Broken Liquid,played at various Pacific Jungle one-off’s and the Hawaii Electronic Music Festival on the Big Island this year. She was one of the first few DJs to have a mix appear on MC XYZ’s ever-growing Back 2 Back Sessions series and has 3 more mixes through Pacific Jungle with more expected in the near future. She also occasionally appears on DJ T.K.O.’s Inner Dimensions show on KTUH (90.3FM Honolulu, KTUH.org), Sundays from 9pm til 12am, and is always really stoked to do so. 2009 is going strong for Saya and Pacific Jungle, as she hopes to put out a few more mixes this year and get serious about working on some tracks. When not dj’ing or promoting, Saya, aka Gin Carter, lives with her boyfriend, Vic and her dog Bailey on the beautiful Windward side of Oahu. She enjoys her “day-job” as a marine cryo-biologist and volunteering  at Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii in Waimanalo.
